Rosie
We might take your pictures outside because the light today is good. Although it is -1˚C presently.
Don't worry, I used to take pictures of models in all conditions when I was a fashion photography student. Safe to say I've inflicted a lot of suffering on a lot of people. So I'm happy to have the pictures taken outside.
Erm, we think that might have to be the quote.
Can you juggle?
It's like when you ask someone can they sing? They can sing but not well. How many objects for it to count as juggling?
I knew this was going to be a good interview. What's your upper limit?
I can do at least one! [Hayden: that's throwing not juggling] I just don't know if I've ever tried more. Have I ever been taught to juggle...no.
But can you?
I'm going to say, unsure.
What brought you to London? Your juggling career?
Ten years ago, I came to London College of Fashion to study Fashion photography and absolutely hated it. I said I'd never come back because I hated living here.
2023 I got promoted from my previous job whilst living up north. I'd been with my boyfriend for about a year at that time and he was living down in London. Those two things came together nicely so that's why I moved to London against all odds.
What's being in love like?
It's amazing. I mean I never said I was, but I am.
I could only assume that if someone could boomerang you back to London then it must be love.
True. It's wonderful. I absolutely adore Adam. He's a great tattoo artist and he's Irish, so I've kind of just hit the jackpot haven't I?
Has he done any of your tattoos?
Yes, he must've done 10 of them now. The fifth tattoo he'd ever done on someone was on our 3rd date on me!
Are you artistic?
Yes, but then I went to university and there was so much analysing that it made me feel a bit shit so I put the camera down for ages.
What inspired you to pick it up again?
Started working in coffee. Gosh this sounds scripted. I think for a practical reason for being the creative person working as a barista, you just sign yourself up to do the social media. Working in cafes unleashed my inner 'people-person(ness)'.
Are you the same in work as you are out of work?
I think I chameleon with individuals. My dad has worked in hospitality his whole life and taught me to treat other people how they treat you.
So you hold a mirror up?
Yeah but I think that's a trait of narcissism.
No a mirror to other people not for you up gaze at yourself in ha!
No but don't you mirror the person to manipulate them? It's usually if someone displays behaviour that's embedded in you.
When did you go pink?
September 2021 but I've wanted pink hair since I was 13. I had quite an expressive style as a teenager so I'd dyed my hair lots of different colours. When I was 16, I went back to school after the summer holidays and my headteacher asked 'what's going on with the hair? It's green!' I'd dyed it black just the day before coming back to school. So I ended up needing to go to hospital as I'd had an allergic reaction to the hair dye. It wasn't very pretty. There were a lot of sores on my head and it was quite swollen. Had to cut my hair short just before prom.
So that made me never want to to touch my hair myself again. I had to wait til I could fund getting my hair done by a hairdressers regularly. That's why it happened about 3 years ago not 14.
Who's your style icon and why?
David Bowie. Growing up, he was one of the first people I was in awe of at a young age. All of my school art projects were on David Bowie. As I got older I feel like the blending of genders in style is important and is something that I've been drawn to. Bowie in 1972 would be so relevant if he took that style to today. I've been obsessed for a while.
Growing up, my parents had a fish and chip shop. There was a woman who worked there who was the first person at age 9 that I can remember think oh my days you're so fucking cool. She was one of this people who had a huge impact on everything I did and she probably doesn't even know that.
I would like an honourable mention whilst we're on the influential David moments. Do you know about the celebrity Big Brother David moment?
What proceeded was an in depth blow-by-blow recounting of the following clip by Rosie. Her mastery of accents and expressions were second to none!
